Cast iron

Cast iron, as the name implies, is capable of being poured into moulds to form a cast object. It is relatively brittle and will break if flexed. Although relatively weak in tension, it is strong in compression. Cast iron was used historically for making cast iron guns (cannon) such as those found on the wrecks of Colossus, Association and the Eagle. The mining machinery found on the wheel wreck is also composed largely of cast iron.
