A sheave is a wheel with a grooved rim designed to guide a rope. Sheaves formed part of the numerous blocks used in the rigging of sailing ships. Sheaves have been found on all the designated wreck sites in Scilly. Large iron sheaves have also been found as part of the mining equipment on the Wheel Wreck.
